Sorry I wasn't clear. Mostly because I was trying to leave options open.
The basic idea is to support Dreamwidth by simultaneously encouraging more content and encouraging people to spend money.
One possibility for doing so is to run a contest of some sort. Since this comm is about icons, it would be an icon contest. The person who submits the best icon during the contest period gets awarded some paid time. Or a random person who posts to the comm during the selected period with at least one new icon gets paid time. (Leaving details like how to determine the best, what categories there might be, how much paid time, how that paid time gets paid for, etc. open for now. But the credit system mentioned in that news post could help.)
Another possibility is to (periodically?) have a post where people can request that icons be made for them, and the person who makes an icon that satisfies the requester gets rewarded with some number of credits.
Or maybe have an open bounty. People who make icons for the comm or for DW or for the various types of DW volunteers (there
was a request over in
dreamsheep that I keep forgetting to work on) get rewarded with credits.
We'd have to see who's willing to put up the money (and how much) and figure out a lot of details. But I thought it might be worth kicking around some ideas.
For the record, this comm
did kick off with a contest.
Finally, credit where it's due:
